Month of Macabre 01-07

8 Oct 2014

There is a monthly challenge running on Instagram at the moment called Month of Macabre. Instead of doing it on my instagram I decided it would be a great weekly post for the month of October on this blog. If you are interested in doing it yourself head over to @monthofmacabre on instagram. Tag your posts #monthofmacabre and you're good to go!

Here is the challenge/list:

01. Favourite Movie Killer: Anton Chigurh

The first character that came to mind is Anton Chigurh. I know No Country For Old Men isn't a horror but oh my it has the tension. Chigurh is definitely unnerving. But then I thought of all the other great ones like Hannibal Lecter, Norman Stansfield, Jack Torrence, Hans Landa, Alex Delarge, The Joker, Patrick Bateman, Tommy Devito, Mr. Blonde!

OK so I saw a tumblr post with gifs of them all but seriously I love them. All such wonderful psychotic characters.

And lets not forget the great horror movie psychos like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Pennywise, Norman Bates and I'm probably forgetting a whole ton more.

But I'll go with Chigurh, mainly because he came to my mind first so he obviously left an impression.

02. Sentimental VHS Rental:

I don't really have a great answer for this one as I never really rented horror VHS's I don't think. By the time I was old enough to be interested in horror or even rent it, it was the time of DVD's. Am I making some people feel old? :P

I did however watch Jurassic Park on VHS to DEATH. I know every line still. I would count it as a horror especially for younger children. My sister was terrified of it when she seen it in the cinema but when I watched it on VHS something clicked and it's now one of my all time favourite movies. So so good.

03. Creepiest Doll/Puppet:

Look at that freaky ass bitch.
I'm going to go with a great episode of The X Files for this answer. Chinga starts with Scully going on vacation in beautiful, beautiful Maine (one day I will visit you), when she comes across a case. Of course she can't have an normal vacation. An evil doll gets attached to a little girl and lots of murders and weird goings on happen. Oh and did I mention it's written by Stephen King? Definitely one of my favourite X Files!

04. Best or Worst Remake:

She's as horrified as us over how bad this movie is.
I know it says "or" but I'm going to go with both!

First up is best. I'm not going to go for an older movie, I'm going to try and pick a recent one because I think that's what the question means. I haven't actually watched a lot of remakes because they get such bad reviews and honestly look so terrible.

One of the better remakes of recent times would have to be Fright Night. I went to see it when there was a movie event on in Dublin. It's not something I would have picked to go see but as it was included we had to watch it and it ended up being pretty decent! Even Colin Farrell didn't suck in it (no pun intended :P). David Tennant was lots of fun and Toni Collette is just always good. So yeah, while it wasn't the most amazing movie ever, it was definitely fun and one of the better remakes out there.

One of the worst remakes?: The Grudge. I'm sorry I even watched this before the original. This one was terribly boring. I would have been 15 or 16 when I watched it I think and it didn't even scare me in the slightest. Be sure to watch the original first.

05. Funniest Horror Comedy:

There are so many funny horror movies out there but I'm going to go with the obvious one, Shaun of the Dead!

06. Favourite Black & White Movie:

It's a tie between Psycho and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Keep staring at that Norman Bates photo by the way.

07. Best Kill With An Object:

Why is it you can never think of anything when you want to? I can think of plenty of ways people die in movies but I can't think of one with an object! I'm just after watching You're Next (which is great by the way and I'll have a review soon) so I'm going to go with the "blender scene". That's all I can say because if I say anymore I will be spoiling it on you guys. So for anyone who's seen it will know what I mean but if you have yet to see this movie I highly recommend it!

That's all for now! I will have another up next week! :D

Thanks for reading and let me know what your answers would be!
