Tremors (1990) on DVD, Tremors II: Aftershocks (1996) on VHS, Tremors 3: Back to Perfection on VHS (2003), Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004) on DVD.

My love for Tremors all started when I was at a friend's house who used to live just down the road from me. I was about 8-9. I couldn't have been much older than that and my friend was even younger. We watched it on VHS of course and it was recorded from off the tv. I remember heading home that night and being so terrified that I ran the whole way back being very careful not to run on the grass or any soft ground.

For anyone that doesn't know, Tremors is a B-movie that takes place in an isolated dusty old town called Perfection in Nevada where two handymen named Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) meet a seismologist who has detected strange "Tremors" around the area. Soon after people start getting killed and trapped by the underground creatures that they name "Graboids".

A few years later when I watched it again I realised how silly I was for being so afraid of it. The same thing happened with Critters. I was so terrified of that film but years later watching it I realised it's actually rather funny! It's strange how as a kid you don't pick up on those things. But then there is quite a lot of gore and tension scenes in both those films so viewing that as a kid is bound to leave an impression!

I had a tv recording of Tremors for years. I recorded it from the english tv station BBC1 which had no adverts. I had the tape for a long time but couldn't find it for this post. It may have even been taped over. If I do find it in future I will post a photo here though. It wasn't until one night I saw that it was on Network 2 (an Irish channel with lots of adverts) that I realised the BBC version had actually cut some bits of the film! It wasn't super important bits but that's still very annoying. So I'm pretty sure I then recorded it off of Network 2 (stopping it when the ads came on).

It wasn't until some time after I found out it had a sequel! I couldn't believe it and was super excited to watch it! I can't actually remember how I came across it. I'm pretty sure I saw it in the RTE Guide (Irish tv guide) and then I recorded it off the tv like the first one and eventually asked my mammy to get it for me when she'd go shopping to Dublin. I had a nice long list of films I wanted her to get me, haha!

Tremors II: Aftershocks sees the return of Earl (Fred Ward) who goes to help an oil company in Mexico with its Graboid infestation. With the help of Grady Hoover and Burt Gummer (who also returns) they battle not only Graboids but a new terror, Shriekers.

The second Tremors, in my opinion, is just as good as the first. To be honest I love them all equally. They each have something great about them. I have them watched to death and even still remember most of the lines.

Now we move along to Tremors 3 which I also have on VHS. Another video I'm pretty sure my mammy got me. She knew I was a fan! Tremors 3: Back to Perfection pretty much says it all in the title. This time we return with Burt Gummer (who is in every Tremors film) fighting off not only Graboids and Shriekers but another stage of Graboid evolution. They're brilliantly named "Ass-Blasters". I will say this one is way more lighthearted and fun but still great! There are many scenes I could go on about but I don't want to spoil it anymore than I have.

My DVD of Tremors 4: The Legend Begins.

Again it was my mammy who bought me, this time, the DVD of Tremors 4: The Legend Begins. The prequel set in 1889. Once again starring Michael Gross who plays Burt Gummer in all the rest of the films but this time he plays Hirman Gummer, Burt Gummer's ancestor who arrives at Rejection, Nevada to investigate why work has stopped at his mine and of course Graboids are the main problem. I will say this one isn't the best of the bunch but it's still fun and stars Billy Drago who is seriously creepy.

I don't know how it was that I ended up with the 1st and 4th ones on DVD but the 2nd and 3rd on VHS. I guess at the time they were pretty hard to come by. Now though you can get them on Blu-Ray which I will have to get soon.

I should also mention that there was a Tremors tv series which didn't last very long. At the time it was incredibly hard to find it and I don't even know how I managed to see 2 episodes. And I also just realised Dean Norris is in it! Most people will know him as Hank in Breaking Bad. You can buy the series here but it's a US import so you can't play it over here without a region free DVD player. I'm sure you could find it to download though, which is what I'll be doing.

Latest news about Tremors is they're making a 5th one! It's going to be set in Africa and yet again sees the return of Burt. I'm extremely excited and can't wait to see it!

This was for Halloween but I'd dress like that all the time if I could to be honest.

And lasty, FrightRags do some amazing horror related t-shirts and as soon as I saw they were doing a Tremors one I had to have it.

I mean, just look at it! I love it very much. Unfortunately I don't think it's available anymore but keep an eye out as they do sometimes bring things back from the graveyard.

This is a roundup of some Halloween movies Steve and I have watched since around the beginning of October! We decided to watch a horror or Halloween related movie every day until All Hollows' Eve when we will then be having our Halloween Horror Movie Marathon Massacre made up of films about Haunted Houses!

I meant to have this post up on the 7th of this month but we got off to a slow start because I was feeling unwell and super tired around the beginning of October so we didn't get much watched. I will however put the next post up on the 14th so I can continue to post them weekly! Now onto the films...

Super 8 

To start things off we watched Super 8. I'm not too sure why Steve picked this because I think it's more of a summer movie but he wanted to watch it and I wasn't going to complain as it's one of my favourites! It ended up being a nice transition into Autumn because the weather here in Ireland has been amazing over the summer and just ended and we're finally getting Autumn weather. Anyhow back to the film, this is one of my favourites because J.J. Abrams made it in homage to Steven Spielberg. Steven Spielberg is one of my all time favourite directors, I have seen so many films by him and love them all. I really think J.J. made this a perfect homage to him. I remember when the trailer came out and just from that I could tell already it had that amazing Spielberg feel to it. It's about a group of kids in 1979 who are making a movie over the summer but after witnessing a train crash and with weird goings on in their town they start to investigate! 10/10 from me!

Julia's Eyes

Now onto a film that fits the Halloween theme. Julia is losing her sight just like her sister who went completely blind and killed herself. Julia does not believe her sister would do something like that so she begins to investigate and as she goes blind herself she starts to feel a presence. Now doesn't that sound interesting? Well I had high hopes for this film but it ended up being terrible. There were way way too many twists and very predictable as well. Had they just kept it simple and introduced more of a supernatural element, this would have turned out a hell of a lot better. Very disappointing. 3/10

Sinister

A true crime writer moves into a new house with his family and discovers some old tapes belonging to a serial killer. This also sounds interesting and while it isn't as terrible as Julia's Eyes, it's still not great. Ethan Hawke plays the true crime writer and oddly he's quite good. I usually find him to be quite annoying. But overall I think this film would have actually been better without the supernatural element unlike Julia's Eyes. It was very interesting when he found and was researching the films but after that it wasn't great. Also the jump scares were so predictable and all they did was turn up the music SO LOUD that there was no way you couldn't jump. I HATE things like that. I want to be scared of what's on screen, I want it to be tense, I do not want loud music that is purposely turned up to give me a fright. So better than Julia's Eyes but not as good as say Insidious and The Conjuring. Go watch them instead. 4/10

You're Next

This was definitely one of the better films we watched this week. While meeting up for a family reunion, one by one, the family all start getting killed off by mysterious masked killers but one member ain't gonna put up with that shit. Remember Cassie from Home and Away? Well she's in this and she's excellent. For anyone sick of women being treated like shit in horror movies (well movies in general) this is one to watch! Note that there is some nudity (very little) but no sexual abuse so for anyone looking for a non-triggering horror movie, this is a good one! While obviously it's not perfect and has some things you could complain about, overall I was really surprised how much I ended up liking it. 8/10

Big Ass Spider

As you can probably tell by the title, the film is about a Big Ass Spider. Greg Grunberg (Remember him from Heroes? And the pilot in LOST?) plays the exterminator who's after the spider. Ray Wise is also in this playing a Major. He is in everything. Well what can I say? Yes this movie is terrible but no you shouldn't not see it because it is quite fun... but terrible... but fun. 3/10

We went to see Guardians of the Galaxy again for the third time. We luckily got a very empty theatre so no annoying kids or crisp bag rattles. 

First thing I will mention about this film is the awesome music. I'm so sick of the terrible mainstream pop noise shite that is in most film these days (especially kids animated films) and to hear some awesome pop from years ago along with some rock/punk songs is just very refreshing! It also just goes to show you how pop has changed over the years and for the worst unfortunately. 

Anyhow, while you listen to the soundtrack we'll start with the rogue/hero of the film: Chris Pratt who plays Peter Quill/ Star-Lord, who steals Ronan's orb and makes some new friend to help defeat Ronan. Some of you may know Chris Pratt from the awesome Park's And Recreation where he plays Andy. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. He's like a kid in it most of the time but so lovable and it's hilarious. Chris Pratt himself even sounds like an awesome guy who has a great sense of humor. And in Guardians it's no different! Even though it has its serious bits, the whole movie is just so funny from the start.

Back to Star-Lord, Chris Pratt does a great job, he's got the humor and the lovable rogue down and with all the other awesome characters, he doesn't get lost either. I think I read somewhere that he's suppose to be a mix between Han Solo and Marty McFly which I have to agree with! But add Andy Dwyer in there too! 

What I loved about this movie is, even though Star-Lord is the main character I felt like he never took over, the other Guardians are just as equally the main characters of the movie (Including some of the bad guys!). Something I think is very hard to accomplish with a movie that has so many characters.

Zoe Saldana plays the beautiful and kickass Gamora who is the adopted daughter of the evil Thanos. But not all is what it seems with her. She is also a sister to Nebula who is played by Karen Gillian. I'm not actually a huge fan of Karen Gillian because of her role as Amy Pond in Doctor Who. I think she was probably one of my least favorite characters in Doctor Who. But she is very awesome in Guardians! Having shaved her head for the role and wearing some amazing makeup (along with Gamora), she really done such a great job. My only criticism is she wasn't in it nearly enough. For such an interesting character, she was the one person that should have been in it more.

Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer, a warrior who wants revenge against Ronan. Drax was a big surprise. For such a serious character who takes everything so literal, he is excellent and comes out as the funniest. Again the makeup is just amazing. The use of makeup and not so much CGI really works and I hope more movies will learn from this.

Of course they had to CGI Groot the tree, human, thing and Rocket the Raccoon. The CGI for both of them is excellent and could obviously be done no other way. Rocket is a walking, talking bounty hunter raccoon who is accompanied by his friend Groot. Rocket is perfectly voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel does an amazing job with the voice of Groot who only says "I am Groot" over and over but somehow manages to engage us. Groot definitely steals the show, he is just too cute and full of surprises.

After all that you have the amazing Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser (The bad guy) who is just fantastic and I actually didn't even recognise that it was him at first. Again the makeup doing an amazing job, also with Michael Rooker (Merle in The Walking Dead) who plays a blue skinned, Yondu Udonta, while I'm sad he doesn't have his amazing mohawk like in the comics he's excellent as the leader of the Ravagers.

I also have to mention Sean Gunn who is the brother of the director James Gunn. He stood in for the character of Rocket as well as some of the scenes with Thanos and plays Kraglin, Yondu's first mate in the Ravagers. He done a hell of a lot throughout the film. Some of you guys might know him as Kirk in Gilmore Girls! :D

Overall you can probably guess I loved this movie, especially after seeing it three times! I could write and rave about lots more in the film but don't want to spoil it for anyone. While I don't think I love it over The Avengers I still think it's one of my all time favorite Marvel movies and definitely one of my all time favorite superhero movies. Just like The Avengers, there really isn't many places I can fault it. 

I would love to know what you thought of it! And if you're looking for a fun movie to see, I highly recommend this one!
