Trick R Treat

A few different stories in one so it's hard to tell you want it is about, Trick R Treat is done so well and has a spookier, scarier and gorier feel than any other films on this list. It has a wonderful Halloweeny feel and has quickly became a film we have to watch every Halloween just like Hocus Pocus!

Paranorman

Paranorman is a wonderful supernatural stop motion film. Norman is not just like any other kid, he can see and talk to the dead. When his uncle warms him that an old witches curse is about to come true, he must try to stop it from destroying his town. It's such a beautiful looking film. Funny and quite sad. A must see this Halloween!

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

I seen the original Halloween movie when I was younger, sometime in my teens I think and I just didn't get it. I didn't like it, I was bored and ended up not watching the rest of it. I know, I know. Being such a classic I should love it but at the time it just didn't do it for me. I have to rewatch it at some point just to be sure. I may appreciate it a bit more now that I'm older. Steve made me watch the third Halloween movie and it's completely different and has nothing to do with Michael Myers and I think that's why I loved it so much (and why others hated it so much). It's about a crazy mask maker who wants his Silver Shamrock masks to kill kids for an ancient ritual. Fun times! And well worth a watch this Halloween!

Halloweentown

This was one I found myself watching on tv sometime ago. I had no idea what it was until a few years later when saw it on tumblr and found out it was called Halloweentown! Of course I have to watch it every year now! Marnie finds out she's a witch and must save a town full of spooky Halloween creatures. Very much a kids movie but great on for adults too, especially if you love that Halloweeny feeling! :D

Frankenweenie

Victor brings his dead dog back to life but must deal with the consequences. Sad but funny at times and so so beautiful looking, especially for Halloween time. Also Mr. Whiskers. Watch for Mr. Whiskers.

The Halloween Tree

I've hear so much about this around Halloween every year. It seems to be a lot of peoples childhood favourite movie along with Hocus Pocus. Steve and I only got around to watching it last year I think. It was a book first by Ray Bradbury and then made into an animated movie. It's about four friends who are going trick or treating when one of their friends falls ill who they must try and save while learning about the origins of their Halloween costumes. I'm making it sound more confusing than it is haha! Definitely worth the watch even if you're an adult. I loved this one. Also the late great Leonard Nimoy does a voice in it.

The Monster Squad

This is one I need to rewatch again soon. A group of friends must stop Dracula and his monster friends from taking over their hometown. This is another one I wish I'd watched when I was a kid! Tom Noonan plays Frankenstien's Monster! We love Tom Noonan. He's in everything.

The Little Vampire

Tony moves to Scotland with his parents and his life is miserable. He then befriends a vampire boy named Rudolph! This one I remember watching when I was younger. I loved it so much! I watched it over and over and it's still one of my favourite movies now! :D Lots of familiar faces in this including Fitz in Agents of Shield!

The Craft

Witchy, gothy, 90's awesomeness that you all need to see and I'm sure you've seen already ;) 

Practical Magic

I feel like this one is a more grown up version of The Craft. Still excellent, witchy and looks so beautiful! I want that house so bad and I heard they actually build it for the film and knocked it down after! The sadness! Starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock it's about two sisters, a curse that's upon their family, Goran Visnjic who is an ass and Aidan Quinn who is much nicer. There is lots of other familiar faces in there too including a very young Evan Rachel Wood.

Ginger Snaps

I'll leave you with the darkest and goriest of the lot. While this film is from 2000 it definitely feels like a 90's film. Starring Katharine Isabelle as Ginger who gets bitten by a werewolf while her sister Brigette tries to keep her under control. Lots of death and gore, perfect for Halloween! :D

I've decided to do weekly posts leading up to Halloween with some of my favourite films to watch at Halloween time! I included some films that I know everyone loves as well as some maybe not so familiar ones to add to your spooky collection! First up is an old favourite...

Casper

Casper is usually on telly at around this time as well as Christmas time for some reason! I find they show better Halloween and horror films at Christmas than they do Halloween itself :P  I assume everyone has seen this film but just in case you haven't: it's about an paranormal expert who moves in to a mansion in Maine with his daughter which happens to be haunted by Casper and three mischievous ghosts! It's a kids movie obviously but can be still very much enjoyed by adults just like the second film on this list...

Monster House 

I do feel not enough people know about Monster House.  It's basically about three kids who discover that their neighbours house is alive and they must do something before it eats all the trick or treaters! It's creepy and scary as well as very funny and actually quite sad when you find out why it's alive!

Sleepy Hollow

And the last film for this weeks post is the fabulous Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate some deaths and the locals are convinced it's The Headless Horseman. Directed by Tim Burton, I can not tell you just how beautiful this film looks. From the set pieces to the costumes it just looks so wonderfully gothic, errie and Halloween. Scary, seriously creepy but also surprisingly funny.  I urge you to watch as soon as possible!

There is no monsters really that scares me now as an adult but as a kid I remember being afraid of most horror films. I'm going to go with one I haven't mentioned yet. I remember watching it in a friends house and being terrified after.

Critters! Look at those freaky ass guys. No wonder I was so afraid. A good few years ago I remember watching some of it again and realising that it's actually quite funny. Amazing how scary things seem as a kid but once you've gotten a little older you can see the humour in it.

I haven't seen it in years but need to watch it again. Remember this guy?!

Ug! I was googling for some images and I remembered him! That's some hair.

28. Spookiest Haunted House:

I'm sorry, but there was no better image to include! Haha! :D But seriously The Woman in Black remake is actually quite good. It's a simple ghost story and builds the tension. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. We actually have the original as one of our Halloween movies to watch so I hope it's just as good!

29. Weirdest Horror Movie

As you can see I changed the question because I do not like torture porn one bit. So the weirdest horror movie I've ever seen goes too...

Hausu

And yes. Those are actual scenes from the movie.

30. Cutest Demon/Possession: 

I don't really know about "cutest" but my favourite possession movie is The Evil Dead.

31. Best Halloween Party Scene:

Please excuse the "hottest scene ever" title of this video. Obviously uploaded by some teenager in his basement and it was the only full video I could find but anyhow this scene is really great. If you haven't seen the film I would highly recommend watching it first before viewing this party scene as it will spoil it a lot. That's also why I'm linking it and not showing it. I can't even really say anything other than that!
