Cement

14 Jan 2016

Happy New Year to the three people who actually read my blog. If for some miraculous reason there is more than three people reading this, Happy New Year to you too! I was hoping to get a blog post up sooner than this but find myself unwell or too busy to even take the photos I need for the posts I want to put up. I will be moving into my own space soon and until then I'm busy, with the help of others, getting it ready. I do find it very hard to do anything blog related when I'm in such a small space at the moment. Oh and lets not forget about the awful, dark, dull, rainy days we get here in Ireland too. It's actually snowing right now.

When I move, I'm hoping to get things with my blog, rolling. I have lots of posts planned and even some videos I want to make. I don't have the best equipment for when it comes to videoing and editing those videos but some of my favourite YouTubers use their webcams or crappy cameras and still manage to produce interesting and awesome content so surely I can do the same!

Grey Hooded Cardigan: H&M, Skeleton Top: New Look, Leggings: Penneys/Primark, Boots: Littlewoods

OK ok, enough rabbiting on. Yesterday I done my makeup, put on some clothes and ended up really liking how it all looked together. I said to Steve would he be able to take some quick photos of me before we lost the light. These are some of the photos he got of me! The photos came out great but the quality isn't the best as the ISO was up pretty high because we had hardy any light, which basically means they're a bit grainy and I noticed they make my foundation look a little cakey. I promise it looked way smoother and nicer than that.

Above are just some photos of the look with my glasses on. I ended up taking them off because of all the raindrops on them (which you can see in the last photo above)! Plus they hid my eye makeup, although this eye makeup and outfit does look well with glasses.

The long grey hooded cardigan thing is from H&M and I searched but can't find it online, sorry! I got this the time I bought a load of awesome grungy, edgy stuff including the dress and leather vest jacket I wore in this post. I love it a lot and wear it loads! It's not super warm though, best for layering or on chilly evenings. Not for when its nearly snowing and in these photos you can actually see my chest going red from the cold! The things I do for blog posts. Shhh.. don't tell Nana.

My skeleton top is from New Look during Halloween last year and isn't available anymore, sadly. It glows in the dark!! I love it.

My foundation is Mac Studio Fix Fluid and it's AMAZING. Well so far anyhow. I will do a review sometime in future I'm sure. On my eyes is two shades from the Limecrime palette "Venus" and on my lips is Limecrime's "Cement" Velvetine. Now I know everyone is completely and totally against Limecrime but to be honest and in my opinion they have great products, I have literally no problems with them and I share the same views about Limecrime that Stephanie Nicole does in this video (starts at 10.22). Totally understand if you don't like them but don't get all angry over some makeup, man! Calm down! You can read more about the scandal's and stuff here, including the whole FDA thing.

Limecrime's Venus palette is amazing, I'm in complete love with it and doing a review post of it is actually one of the many posts I want to get up soon. It's a very red based palette which is perfect if you like your grungy looks. They blend so so well and I will definitely talk about them more in future. In this look I went for an orangey rusty look which I think looks really well with "Cement". Their Velvetines are the only liquid to matt lipsticks that actually stay on my lips for a good while. I don't get the long lastingness like some people do because my lips are ridiculously dry and it does start to fade after awhile but this is the first time I've ever been able to wear anything on my lips for so long. Can't rave about them enough! The colour is an amazing deep grey and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to get it! I got this along with some other things and the Venus palette on sale around Christmas. It was a freakin' amazing sale. Got some Velvetines for pretty much half price. Delighted. Will have a review of all in future.

My boots are from Littlewoods and the only sale thing I bought from there. I find Littlewoods has gotten so bad over the last few years clothes wise. Especially in the plus size section. Bin bags. Yep. 'Cos no plus size lady has actually got a shape and they certainly don't want anything fitted and not baggy. UGH. Anyhow I was going through the sale and spotted these boots for €17! They're actually still on sale but gone up to €21. Not that I need anymore boots but these have low heels and all my other boots have a bit of a heel so I thought these might be a bit more comfortable. To be honest I can't give a good enough review of them right now because I only wore them once. But I love how they look!

And finally onto my jewellery! The pentagram necklace is from Fashionology.nl a good while back. I added it to a different chain so that it would be a little shorter. My choker I bought in a set of 5 from aliexpress.com for like a euro or something. And the Ankh earrings I made myself and get so many compliments on!

I had to obviously include a photo of Steve, my photographer for the day. He froze his little fingers off and moaned about the cold but got me the shots I wanted, so thanks :P He's currently working on a blog post so head over to his blog to see it when it's up!

I have no idea when I'll have another blog post mainly because of being busy and all that I explained at the beginning but definitley in the next few months I'm hoping to get a bit more frequent with posting! You can follow me on my new facebook page Spooky Ash which I've already started to post to! If you have bloglovin, twitter or instagram you can follow me at those places too for updates :)

Thanks for reading!!

Alternative Curves: Riot Grrl Heroines

3 Aug 2015

"That girl thinks she's the queen of the neighborhood
She's got the hottest trike in town
That girl she holds her head up so high
I think I want to be her best friend, yeah"

January's Alternative Curves theme was Riot Grrl Heroines and because it's so awesome I had to go back and do it even though I'm months too late.

If I'm honest I don't actually remember when I first came across the whole Riot Grrl scene. I think it could have been both when I got into Nirvana (who led me to Hole, L7, Babes of Toyland etc.) and Black Flag, well mainly Henry Rollins talking about Bikini Kill, 7 Year Bitch, Lunachicks and more. It would have been around the time I learned more about Feminism as well. Women playing loud angry punk musics and singing about women's rights? Hell yeah that's my kinda thing!

The Riot Grrl fashion in my opinion was basically just wear whatever the hell you wanted to wear which included flannel, denim, boots, dresses, flowery things and messy hair and makeup (if any at all!).

I went for a skirt as I thought it was feminine but combined with everything else still looks edgy and punk.

I think I got this denim shirt in New Look. When I got it I knew I had to add some patches. I still actually have a few more to add to it. I think the "Everybody's too Stupid" patch works so perfect for this look as well as the Enid brooch and "I can't relate to 99% of humanity" patch below, all from Ghost World of course.

Princess Bumblegum pin, I would very much consider her a Riot Grrl! :P The bat pin I made myself.

Steve Intermission! He's telling me how to pose :P

How amazing are these X Files earrings? They came to mind for this look as I think Dana Scully is one of the best female characters out there. My choker is from Aliexpress, I got a pack of 5 for about €2!

How amazing are my skeleton socks?! I got them in a shop in St Georges Arcade in Dublin. My amazing Doc's were a present from my boyfriend. I love them so much!

Denim shirt: New Look
Nirvana Tee: New Look
Skirt: New Look
Leggings: Penneys/Primark
Socks: St Georges Arcade in Dublin
Docs: Present from my boyfriend
Enid Brooch: Etsy
Patches: Etsy
Bat Brooch: DIY
Princess Bumblegum Pin: HMV
X Files Earrings: Etsy
Choker: Aliexpress
Lipstick: NYX Alabama Matte

Thanks to Steve for taking all the photos! He's getting better at it :P He took some photos of me with my Instax Mini and I just love the two photos that came out! They have a great 90's vibe!

Alternative Curves: Alter Ego

19 Jul 2015

Furi-Asha is what Steve likes to call me or Ash Dangerfox for some reason! :P I haven't been around much lately because of computer problems. Damn computers. I have one up and running now so I'm excited to get back to my blogging. I missed out on lots of Alternative Curves posts (I actually hope to do some of the past themes in future even though they're over cos they're just so damn awesome) but decided to jump right back in with this months theme "Alter Ego". At first when I thought of alter ego "does it have to be someone completely different to me? Do I need to be the opposite of myself?" Then I gave it a google just to see the proper definition:

"a person's secondary or alternative personality. "
"in the flesh she is a million miles from her photographic alter ego"

But then all that made me think of was the person I actually want to be. Not that I'm totally unhappy with myself but I do choose not to wear certain clothes and makeup because of being judged or talked about negatively by others. I have very bad anxiety and doubt myself constantly and just don't feel good most of the time.

"Where does she think she's going dressed like that?" "She's too fat to wear that" "eww" "other nasty comments"

Those thoughts ran through my head as I put this outfit together. I said it to my boyfriend Steve and he just tells me to shut up and put on the clothes and that I look awesome and fuck what everyone else thinks. FUCK 'EM (need to find that Christopher Walken Seven Psychopaths clip).  Thank you Steve.

So who is my alter ego? Well I've always ALWAYS wanted to do this with my makeup. I remember seeing it on the internet years ago and for the life of me I can't remember where. You also see similar makeup like this in movies, Blade Runner and Mad Max come to mind. Mad Max was one of the main reasons. My boyfriend and I seen it in the cinema 5 times cos we're cool like that. I shaved my green (well it was purple at the time) mohawk for many reasons but one of them was Furiosa, I'm not gonna lie.

Badass, I wanna look badass. With that makeup and those clothes, who would dare mess with me?! I want to make sure nobody's going to say anything negative about me other than "Oh shit we better leave" or "She's super awesome and we should be friends" :D

To look awesome and be sure of myself mainly. To wear the clothes I want. To wear the makeup I want and not second guess my fashion or style decisions. My alter ego would have no problem being who she wants to be.

Intermission: Steve attack! He's the most bootiful.

Having green or any coloured hair clashes horribly with so much clothes. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't buy neutral colours without the coloured hair taking over. Don't get me wrong I love coloured hair but for now my style has changed and I'm going with it. I bought some new clothes which I hope to do future outfit posts with and I bought this amazing leather vest. I was actually on the hunt for a leather jacket but ended up trying this on in H&M and it was so much nicer than any of the leather jackets there. It had to be mine. Another amazing thing is that vest is a size 14. Obviously it won't close as I'm a size 18-20 but it fits perfect everywhere else. H&M's sizes have really surprised me.

The amazing flowy, grey dress is from H&M as well and it's a size Medium! Whhhhhat?! I saw it on the rails and I was raging there was no size Large so I just tried on the Medium and it fit perfect. See? H&M amazing sizes. I say the large would fit a 20-26 cos this Medium would even fit a 24. It's just so stretchy, loose and hangs so perfect.

My leggings are also from H&M (I'm just a walking advertisement for H&M) but seriously H&M are brilliant and I had no idea they had such great stuff and in super sizes. Those leggings are XL and while they fit me they're actually miles too big for me. So if you're looking for 20, 24, 26+ size leggings I'm really sure these will fit. I have since bought a size large and they're perfect and don't dig in or anything. The quality is great as well. I find things don't stick to them bad and they're soft.

My Ankh earrings I made myself and if you want a pair they're about €5, just leave me a comment! I have an earring cuff from penneys which I got in a pack of 3 or 4 for 50c. My bracelets are also from Penneys in sales for like 50c each. Go Penneys. My skull necklace is from Fashionology.nl I think. It was awhile ago! My boots are Doc Martens for stomping around.

What I'm wearing:
Leather Vest: H&M
Dress: H&M
Leggings: H&M
Necklace: Fashionology.nl (I think)
Ear Cuff and Bracelets: Penneys/Primark
Ankh Earrings: Made them myself
Boots: Doc Martens

On my face:
Black eyeshadow and eyeliner: Rimmel
Foundation: Vichy Dermablend Correction Concealer Stick Thing, Bourjois 123 Perfect Colour Correcting Cream
Lips: Sleep Matt Me Lip Cream in Birthday Suit
Eyebrows: HD Brows and some cheap ass clear brow gel
Contour: Seventeen Define and Contour Kit

Before I go, how awesome is the location? We stopped in a village called Taghshinny which isn't too far from where I live. There is a couple of old buildings right in the middle of the village. It's sad but makes for great location when taking photos!

Thanks to Steve for taking all the photos! And making me get out of the car when I didn't want people to see me and hiding me when cars went past and making me feel better in general :P
