Subvision - Music Monday

12 Oct 2015

I just randomly decided to start this weekly post because I'm listening to Subvision right now and they're my new favourite thing. I'm obsessed you guys, OBSESSED.

Subvision was recommended to me by Spotify. I've really been enjoying Spotify for that reason, it gives such good recommendations from time to time. I have not been enjoying the terrible ads though but I refuse to pay the monies :P

Spotify recommended "Scenario" from the album "So Far So Noir" (best name), as soon as we (Steve and I) heard the song it sounded very like another band I've been obsessed with lately. One I've been listening to non-stop on Spotify so that explains why it was recommended to me. Why am I not telling you the other band I was listening to? Because said band likes to keep their identity secret and the lead singer of Subvision is so obviously him. I was kinda annoyed I found out because I like not knowing and I don't want to spoil it on anyone. But if you've heard the other band and listen to these you'll know. I should note that there is rumours on the internet about his identity and it is rumoured that he is the lead of this band but it's not actually official. I'm just guessing but, like, there is no way it's not him :P It would be a very big coincidence.

Anyhow enough about all the secrecy. Google it if you wanna know. I'll more than definitely be featuring the other band in this series at some point. Also don't expect me to write amazing reviews of these bands or artists I'll be showing you cos I'm not good at that! I mostly think "That sounds good" "That sounds awesome" "*brain explodes*" "*internal screaming*" "No words just listen" "play that again".

Spotify tell me that Subvision have two EP's which I have yet to listen to and then the amazing album "So Far So Noir". They're from Stockholm and I have no idea if they're still active? This album came out in 2006. Anyhow they sound very New Wave-ish to me. I could be totally wrong but it's very pop/rock/alternative/weird anyhow. Goddamn labels!

I was like "oh I'll pick some of my favourite songs from the album" eh I can't even pick one cos they're all so good. Ok I'll try and pick three and then you can go listen to the album cos really you should just listen to the album. It's only 37 mins.

Subvision - Scenario

Subvision - Room 611

Subvision - Son of May

This one sounds just like a song his other band would do. Even has words in the lyrics which is a title of a song they have :P

Subvision - So Far So Noir Full Album

For anyone who has Spotify, you can listen to them here. You can also add me if you like! This is my profile 11138078821 I think... I'm not sure how to link my profile ha! Let me know if it works anyhow.

So what do you think of Subvision? Did you listen to the whole album? If not we can't be friends.
Thanks for reading! :D

Spooky Halloween Soundtrack: Dead Man's Bones

12 Oct 2014

I can't remember how it was I came across Dead Man's Bones but when I first heard them I couldn't believe that was Ryan Gosling's voice. I heard them long before he was in films like DriveOnly God Forgives and The Place Beyond The Pines. I only knew him from The Notebook and as Hollywood's latest heartthrob. I did not think he could produce music like this.

Of course he wasn't alone. He started up Dead Man's Bones with friend Zach Shields. When they met, they actually hated each other but eventually found out they both shared a love for the creepy and macabre. They both put together their love of Horror and created the amazing and eerie "Dead Man's Bones".  Straight away I loved it and it has become one of my favourite albums to listen to around Halloween time. If I make a playlist you can be sure they'll be on it.

I should also mention the amazing choir that are also featured throughout the album, Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir. Now I have to admit, having a choir on an album doesn't sound very appealing to me but this works very well and I urge you to give it a listen even if it puts you off.

All the songs have a spooky element as they decided to write love songs about ghosts and monsters. "In The Room Where You Sleep", "My Body's A Zombie For You" and "Buried In Water" being some of my favourites.

In The Room Where You Sleep (Live)

"There's something in the shadows
in the corner of your room.
A dark heart is beating
and waiting for you.
There is no open window, but the floors still creek.
In the room where you sleep.
In the room where you sleep…
Where you… sleep."

My Body's A Zombie For You

"The smell of my breath
From the blood in your neck
Oh, I hold my soul
From the lands unknown
So I can play the strings of your death"

Buried In Water

"When the women and kids are asleep
The wolves there, in the skin of the sheep
So lock all the windows and doors
The devil's coming for you and yours."

Name In Stone
(Live from a Graveyard)

"In the end we'll make a home
A name in stone
A name in stone
In the end we'll make our home
A name in stone
Your name in stone."

That last song "Name in Stone" isn't actually on the album for whatever silly reason! It's a wonderful song and that video is just perfect.

I didn't think there was anything about a new album until I saw this tumblr post. I can't seem to find any official news though. And I do wonder if it's false, especially because the date is June of this year and well, there is nothing out so far! All news about it is from last year as well... We can only hope!

I will leave you with a link to the whole album on YouTube. Be sure to give it a listen in full as it's wonderful. It's not all doom and gloomy I should mention and you should know if you listened to the songs above. It's great for those raining autumns days, yes, but also for those sunny crisp autumn days!

I hope you enjoyed reading and listening to this post! I should have some more Spooky Halloween Soundtrack's very soon! Make sure you're following me on Bloglovin or here on Blogger for updates on my blog!

Until next time...

  2. I'm a Sagittarius and even though I don't follow or really believe in Horoscopes, I do fit mine rather well.
  3. I haven't really played any video games since I was a kid but started again recently and the Xbox controller is terrible and no one will convince me otherwise :P
  4. I'm currently playing The Walking Dead Game (the one by Telltale) and it's super awesome. I'm still only on the first season, episode 4 now I think. No spoilers!

5 Films or TV Shows You Recommend and Why

1. Parks and Recreation: An awesome comedy starring Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope who is head of the Park's department in Pawnee. It also stars Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Chris Pratt and many more as her Parks department team! Everyone in this show is just brilliant. It honestly gets better every season and even more hilarious! I highly recommend! :D

2. The Thing: I can't actually think of anything else, this was basically the first thing that came to my mind! If you haven't seen this movie I may have to disown you. It's about Kurt Russell, his beard and a research team in the Antarctic who come in contact with an alien who can make itself look like any one of them, including their beards. It's a classic and one of the best horror/sci-fi movies out there!

3. Freaks and Geeks: A show about different groups of teenagers trying to survive high school in the 80s. I don't know why but this show makes me feel very nostalgic or something. It leaves you with a great feeling anyhow. One I also get watching Dazed and Confused. I just want to be there and you will too. Another show gone far too early and why on earth it didn't get another season is beyond me. But we will always have these 18 episodes of awesomeness.

4. Guardians of the Galaxy: Chris Pratt (Same guy in Parks and Rec) steals Ronan's orb, Ronan gets angry and goes looking for him while Chris makes some new friends to help save the world from Ronan's orb. It also has the most amazing soundtrack. And Groot. (I have a full review coming soon!)

5. Doctor Who: I'm very excited about the new Doctor. Peter Capaldi is doing an amazing job so far. I've really loved every episode up to now. People are saying he's insulting people too much and I say, he's not insulting them enough :P Haha!

5 Things That Make You Uncomfortable

  1. Social situations! You people making me uncomfortable :P
  2. Teenagers (Even when I was one I was uncomfortable around them.)
  3. Spiders. I am very afraid of them.
  4. People who aren't "dessert kind of people" GTFO.
  5. The McPoyles.

5 Things You Can't Live Without

Putting aside my family, boyfriend and pets...
  1. My computer. Kind of an obvious one but I love my computer! It's an old Mac and I love it very much.
  2. My iPhone. Again, kind of obvious but ever since I got my iPhone I honestly don't know how I managed without it. I can keep up to date with everything and if I want to know something, I can look it up straight away! It's also made me take so many photos of everything and anything. And lets not forget if you're waiting around you have lots of games to play or even read a book!
  3. Fooood! Well obviously nobody can survive without food but I'm including it cos I love food oh so very much. Mmmmmm..... delicious foodness.
  4. My Doc Martens. What else is going to get me through the horrible 365 day Irish winters?
  5. Halloween!!!! How else would I be able to buy all my strange, skeleton and bat related ornaments without this amazing occasion?! :D

So do you know me a little better now? Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be doing lots more "about me" tags when I get bored in future :P
